Are Changes To Facebook’s Timeline Coming?

Let’s face it, not every business or person loves Facebook’s Timeline. Some businesses have found the new layout to be an effective marketing tool, while others are eager to things go back to the way they used to be. Facebook’s layout going back to the way that it used to be is a pretty slim chance, so the only thing business’s who dislike Timeline can hope for is that changes are made to it that’ll help them promote their business better.

Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been a little chatter going on surrounding just that- Facebook changing the layout of Timeline. Don’t get your hopes up too high though; the potential changes haven’t been confirmed and even if they do become confirmed, the changes aren’t anything major.

As of right now, when a user views your Facebook business page, they see your cover photo and then all of the rest of your information is shoved below the cover photo. In other words, important information is overshadowed by a gigantic picture. According to PCWorld, a new layout of Timeline is being tested. In the version being tested, some information is shown as an overlay on the cover photo rather than being placed below it. It still shows up on the bottom half of the cover photo so it’s not as though it’s the first information on the page. On top of that, with a bunch of text put on top of the cover photo, it does distract away from the cover photo (not a positive if you have an awesome cover photo that attracts people to check out your page.)

While the changes being proposed in the test aren’t groundbreaking, will they be enough to change people’s minds about Timeline? More than likely not, but for businesses who use Facebook for promoting their business online, having more information near the top of the page may be beneficial depending on your preferences.
