Are you marketing your business on a website or on a social media platform but you’re not receiving the amount of engagement from potential customers that you’d like to see? It’s frustrating for business owners when they put a great deal of time and effort into promoting their business online but results are either slow to come or they don’t come at all. While there are many potential reasons for why your online business promotion isn’t going as planned, one of the main things to take into consideration is trust- or a lack thereof.
When a person doesn’t trust a business, the person won’t do business with them, plain and simple. What’s even more frustrating though is that the reason why consumers may not be trusting of a business is because they’ve never heard of the business before. This could either be due to the company being new (new in formation or new online), or simply consumers never hearing about the business before. Other reasons why consumers tend not to trust businesses who promote online include:
- A website that is outdated or looks outdated
- A lack of updates on a website (showing that the business is active)
- An incomplete social media page or account
- Bad pictures of products (if you run an e-commerce shop)
- A lack of response if potential customers or current customers contact a business
- Spam tactics (link spamming on social media or through email marketing)
- A negative online reputation (negative reviews on review style websites, past employees writing negative reviews, negative information about the company or employees in the search engine results, etc.)
These are just a few of the reasons why potential customers may not trust a business. Of course the only way to correct this problem is to gain trust. If you notice that you’re not getting the response that you’d like when you’re promoting your business online, start by trying to build trust with online consumers. It’s not guaranteed to fix the issue, but it’s a good place to start.
